On-page SEO is one of the great techniques of SEO, optimizing your website to rank higher in search engines, and also can help you maximize your resources while generating more relevant traffic to the website.

Nowadays about 70-80% of people are focusing on organic results than the paid one so organic SEO seems better compared to the paid search ads. And on-page SEO helps to achieve all the organic traffic to your site.

On-page SEO practices include optimizing title, description, content,

internal link, headings, and URLs, etc.

How to use the on-page SEO Checklist?:

You don’t need to follow all the on-page SEO Checklist (techniques) on this checklist here. You just need to apply what is required for your site and let your efforts make some noise that means bring traffic to your site and rank higher in search engines.

Why is On-page SEO Important For Your Site?:

Many of you have a question : does on-page SEO still make any difference in 2020?

My answer: Yup!

Because Google is way smarter than before but still it searches(crawls) for a specific keyword on your website then saves the data.

To rank your content in 2020, you also need to focus on your content that means optimize your content by which it will help you in:

  • Good user experience
  • Reduce the bounce rate
  • Increase spending(dwell) time
  •  Increase Click-through rate(CTR)

On-page SEO Techniques:

Now that you have seen why on-page SEO still matters, it’s time to give your On-page SEO checklist to optimize your website this 2020.

Write eye-catching title and wrap it in an H1 tag:

The title is one of the most important on-page SEO factors because by the title both the web crawler and visitors get to know about the content of the blog of your website. So your title should be descriptive and also enclose what the page is about. And make your title eye-catching and unique. Its length should be about 600 pixels.

And one main thing, the title should contain the primary keyword that helps you gain favor in search engines.

 Why?

Because within a few milliseconds of crawling search engines get to know what the topic is going to be all about.

Don’t forget to wrap the title in an H1 tag, because the H1 tag is like a mini title tag. It ensures that your title is crawled effectively by Google. Most platforms like WordPress automatically add the H1 tag to your title if your website is in WordPress then you are all set. But if you are not then you have to wrap the title in H1 tag manually.

Use SEO-friendly URL:

URL is considered a very small SEO factor but it is also very important like title and every page of the website has a unique URL so it must contain the primary keyword in it.

It should be small(maximum of 5 words)l, avoid special characters and numbers in it.

Don’t underestimate little things because every little helps when you are trying to get to the top.

Write Unique, Keyword-rich Meta description:

Your meta description is a factor Google pays attention to because it is a small snippet of text that best describes the content of your page in SERP. A good meta description helps your result stand out and reading it should give an idea of what to expect from the article, which can also boost your organic CTR. The length should be 928-pixel width limit.

It is best to mention the primary keyword in your description because Google bold the term that matches the searcher’s query. So readers click, read, and learn about your content. It helps you get a nice little CTR bump.

Use Subheadings and wrap it in Header tags(H2, H3…, H6):

Including subheadings in your content is one of the factors which helps in good user experience. So use subheadings in between and also you can use your targeted keywords in subheadings.

Don’t forget to wrap all your subheadings in header tags(H2, H3, H4, H5, H6). By wrapping them with header tags helps the crawler consider the subheadings as important and related to the topic at the time of crawling.

Keep an eye on Keyword Frequency:

Use your keywords on your title, description, URL, subheadings, etc, and also you can use it in the content but yes don’t do the keyword stuffing.

Use 2-3 keywords in 100 words but don’t use more than that.

Use keywords a few times in the content to confirm Google that your page is really about that topic.

Place your keywords in the content seamlessly and look natural.

Good User Experience Focused Unique Content:

You want to provide a good user experience while visiting your site. Some factors help you to do that:

  • Write your content in simple language which is easy to understand.
  • Content should be unique.
  • Use clear headings and subheadings
  • Breaking the content into paragraphs.
  • Improving the loading speed of your site.
  • Having a design that is responsive.
  • Use images and videos.
  • Use bullet points and text boxes.

By following all this bounce rate of your site decrease and user experience will be good.

LSI Keywords in Your Content:

LSI keywords are keywords or phrases that are related to the topic you are talking about.

According to the Hummingbird algorithm, Google understands a page’s theme not only by looking at the keywords but also the keywords which meaning is related to that topic means it understands the search intent.

By using LSI keywords you are making your topic relevant to broad topics. Then google bots can understand your content easily and rank your content higher on SERP.

Internal Links Placement:

Internal linking is the linking between two pages of your website.

If you want to boost one Blog of your sites then do the linking between the relevant page having high-authority to that page but yes don’t forget to use keyword-rich anchor text. By doing this the high-authority page passes some link juice to the page having low-authority. So that page drives some traffic from that page.

By doing internal linking between pages of the same website it increases the dwell time of both the crawler and also visitors and decreases the bounce rate. If there are any broken links don’t forget to fix and update links.

External Linking:

External links to related pages that are not present in your website or domain help search engines to figure out your page’s topic. It can help search engines determine the overall value of your content. If you link websites that are related to your topic having high-authority, you increase the credibility of your page which is important for SEO.

Don’t forget to use relevant anchor text and pay attention to the do-follow and no-follow tags.

Image Optimization:

Images in the content make the content easy to understand and interesting to read. It also helps your page ranking in SERP.

And yes don’t forget to add alt text to your image because the crawler doesn’t understand where the image is in content because it only understands the code and text. So if you add alt text, image file name, title in the image it will recognize the image. Crawlers also use this to index your image.

Use a high-quality image and yes compress it before uploading it. Resize your images which helps your page to load faster.

 Video Optimization:

Besides images, you can also add videos in the content. By adding videos it will engage visitors and increase their dwell time which is good for your website to rank.

When optimizing video, follow some basics:

  • The title of your video should be engaging and contain the primary keyword in it.
  • Add a description that will tell visitors and crawlers what the video is all about. Don’t forget to add LSI keywords in the description of your page.
  • Use relevant thumbnails.
  • The video should be relevant to your content.
  • You can add subtitles also.

By adding videos your website engages visitors and also helps them to understand your content clearly.

Add Call-to-action Button:

When visitors consume your content they might be interested to know what to do next. So you can provide them the call-to-action button.

And yes your call-to-action should be related to your content’s intent.

That means if your site provides information then you should give the “Sign Up” button. If your site is about any course(study-related) then you should give the “Call Now” button.

Schema Mark-up:

You can add schema markups to your HTML to stand out from the crowd. It gives your website results on SERP more info such as star rating, pricing, and review stars.

The schema doesn’t directly help your SEO but using certain types of schema can give you rich snippets which can help you get more clicks.

The two good types of schema for getting rich snippets are

review schema and FAQ schema.

Write a Good Introduction:

Writing an intro is very important because if you lose visitors for the very beginning it is very bad for your site. The bounce rate will increase and dwell time will decrease.

The intro is the main point by which you can ensure user engagement.

To decrease the bounce rate, hook your visitors with an interesting intro that will make them read the whole topic.

Remember one thing how much good your content is, if the audience already went from starting then they are unable to see. So make your intro compelling.

Content should be Unique, Valuable, and optimized for Search Intent:

When I say “unique” it means unique not the duplicate content.

Using keywords a bunch of times in the content, helped but in this competitive world is not enough so your content should be unique and also have new tips and strategies, new case study, streamlined step-by-step process.

Publishing something unique is good for a start but not enough. So your content to stand out and get noticed, it needs to be super valuable. So add details( images, screenshots, steps make it easy for someone), Crisp writing, Updated materials( new tips and strategies), and make it beginner-friendly.

Long-term content has more than 3000 words, has more traffic, more social shares, more backlinks therefore it increases page authority and ranking in SERP.

Your content should be high-quality, and related to your goal category of search intent that means satisfy search intent. Your page has to be exactly what search engines’ searchers want. Otherwise, your page will likely be buried on the 3rd or 4th page.

Quality content should be easily understood and to make information look organized on the page of your website you may use bullet points and number lists. Also, it is ideal to write in short paragraphs to make your content easier to digest and include media to make the content easier to understand and more entertaining to read.

Keyword Placement:

Track what people search and what are their queries related to your topic then add those keywords in your content. This is the main step in knowing how people search and look for answers to their questions.

Do the keyword research by using many tools such as Google Keyword Planner. Then place all the keywords in your content and yes place them seamlessly and naturally.

Rank Your Content in Featured Snippet:

The featured snippet is an organic answer box on top of SERP that search engines pulled from websites for specific queries and yes it helps increase organic traffic on your website.

To rank and optimize for a featured snippet, it’s important to follow the following steps:

  • Answer each question concisely and accurately.
  • Use facts and data when providing answers.
  • Organize and phrase your questions properly.
  • Use images, videos, and infographics.
  • Give answers as many related questions as possible.

You need to be on the first page to have any shot of getting featured snippets that means you need to find first page results that have a featured snippet and you rank for.

Ranking in a featured snippet can make a HUGE difference in CTR of your page.

Decrease Your Page Loading Time:

If the page loading time is more than obvious, nobody has time to wait for your page opening, so they move to another website.

Because no one likes a slow loading page. So first check the page loading speed then optimize it for better results.

Google also gives priorities to that page which has less loading time because Google also takes it as a ranking factor.

The faster your page opens, the higher your page ranks on SERP.

Make Your Site Mobile Responsive:

Mobile responsive means the same site when showing on mobile it looks like the site is made for mobile. Every text, images, videos, buttons are clear on mobile, in one word fit for mobile screen.

Because nowadays many people use their mobile at the time searching for something on the web so if your site is mobile responsive then it also helps in ranking on SERPs.

Thus optimizing your site for mobile is necessary for ranking and driving a great no. of traffics to your site through mobile.

Optimize Your Site for Voice Search:

The meaning of voice search is, search something by speaking instead of typing.

Nowadays voice search is growing super fast.

By the end of the year 2020, half of the people will use the voice search option at the time of searching for something online because it is easy to do. And now search engines such as Google are giving emphasis on voice search.

And one thing makes your website mobile-friendly because most voice searches happen on mobile.

Fix Keyword Cannibalization issues:

Keyword cannibalization is one of the most misunderstood SEO concepts because many think it is an issue that is all about the intent of a page.

But it is not true it happens when two or more web pages from your site target the same primary keyword or phrase. By making this type of mistake, you confuse search engines in pointing which page is more important.

Therefore, neither of your pages from your website will be ranked so don’t forget one primary keyword for one page.

If you want to get rid of this type of issue, use one primary keyword for one page.

Find and Fix Orphaned Site Page:

An orphaned page means the website pages which are not linked from any other pages of your site. That means a visitor doesn’t know where to go next for more information because your page isn’t linking with other pages of your site.

The page of your website should always be linked from another page or linked to another page. If Google is not able to crawl your page then your page won’t get any authority also won’t rank as well as it could be.

Orphaned page definitely isn’t ideal. You need internal links somewhere to every page of your site but as long as you link internally to your orphan pages, you are fine.

Make Sure Your Site is crawling and indexing by Search Engines:

Crawling means reading the data of your site by search engines and indexing means save the data in their data box and use it at the time of deciding the website’s ranking.

Search Engines crawl millions of websites online to know which website has the highest probability of answering humans’ queries by which they decide the ranks. By following links the search engine knows about the new page or new website.

You can stop the crawler to crawl your website by using Robots.txt if you want.

Use Modifier in Title:

Using modifiers like “best”, “guide”, “checklist”, “fast”, and  “review” can help your content rank for long-tail versions of your target keyword.

For example; The title of this blog- On-page SEO Checklist, where the word “checklist” is working as the modifier.

Aside from your primary keyword, you can be ranked for these modifiers. Modifiers also can be used in voice search on your page.

Use Original Images in Your Site:

Use original images in your content instead of taking images from another site that is already published. Don’t take those types of images for your site because search engines consider them duplicate images and also penalize your site so BE CAREFUL about it. There are many sites available where images are available without crawling and indexing you can use them.

Use “Question Title Tag” for more CTR:

Recently figured out why certain pages get clicked on over pages and the most surprising findings were that question-based title tags have an above-average click-through-rate.

If you use “question title tag” then when anybody searches any question related to your topic then your website will show them as the answer.

So many times your site will show to the people whoever searches any question related to it then your site will increase CTR and get rank on SERP quickly.

Put a Comment Section:

Place a comment box at the end of your page where people can ask any queries and give you some suggestions or reviews of your content. By which you can improve your content it should be better and sometimes appreciation is good for working hard.

And one thing it also increases the dwell time of visitors.

Add Social Sharing Buttons in your Page:

In this day and age, where social media is used by almost everybody and everywhere, information is shared and gets instantly. So good content must be shared by people who are on social media through the social sharing buttons. By sharing it can easily be distributed across multiple platforms and also gain traffic and brand recognition from those sites.

Also which customer wants to share your blog, this sharing button on your page will also improve the user experience.

It is all about on-page SEO techniques.

Conclusion:

Read the on-page SEO checklist I have provided above this and yes don’t need to follow all the techniques. You can follow those which are required to your site. And yes on-page SEO techniques are very useful to rank on SERP and drive a great amount of traffic to your site.
